The ProVelo Super League (PSL) will kick off this year's Brisbane Cycling Festival (BCF), bringing back elite racing to one of Brisbane’s most iconic circuits.
The Q Tour officially launches a huge three-week calendar of cycling in Brisbane with a fast-paced, action-packed street criterium under lights on Friday 21 March at 6:00pm.
The dynamic 1km circuit, which takes in the well-loved South Bank streets of Grey and Little Stanley, will present exciting racing for riders and fans alike. The event is set to bring in spectators from across the country and inject thousands into the local economy.
The program commences at 5:00pm with the PSL’s official charity partner, Chain Reaction, hosting a fundraising Corporate Teams Challenge on the fully closed street circuit, followed by the SBS Women’s and SumUp Men’s League races.
Spectators can enjoy the action trackside in the PSL Echelon Club or from one of South Bank’s restaurants and bars with great viewing along the course.
Adding to the atmosphere, spectators will enjoy live entertainment and all the action will be broadcast live to the big screen trackside, while fans across the country will be able to watch live on SBS.
The Q Tour marks the final round of the inaugural PSL season. At the end of the Tour, the overall champions will be crowned, the under-23 men’s winner will secure a stagiaire contract with the Jayco AlUla WorldTour team, and the women’s winner will earn a 12-month contract with the Liv AlUla Jayco development team.
PSL co-founder Aaron Flanagan paid tribute to South Bank Corporation for being one of the first partners to sign on with the League.
“South Bank were quick to identify the potential of the PSL and we are so excited to bring back elite racing to this iconic precinct with a bumper Friday night program under lights,” Mr Flanagan said.
“It's all on the line for our teams and riders entering the final round of our first season and South Bank is going to present an epic stage for the Q Tour opener. WorldTour contracts are on the line, so the racing is going to be hotly contested, guaranteeing great spectating.
“We’re humbled to have the opportunity to host the opening event of the Brisbane Cycling Festival. It’s grown into Australia's biggest celebration of bike riding and we’re thrilled the Q Tour is a part of the celebration.”
AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner said she was excited for the PSL to hit the streets of South Bank.
“Cycling contributes an economic value of $17 billion each year and is one of Australia’s most successful Olympic sports,” Ms Fechner said.
“It’s wonderful that an event like the ProVelo Super League’s Q Tour is attracting new audiences and putting a spotlight on cycling and riding.
Ms Fechner said she looked forward to welcoming competitors to the Sunshine State.
“Brisbane’s international appeal speaks for itself when it comes to delivering sporting events and the ProVelo Super League will showcase our world-class cycling infrastructure and fans.
“Events like the Q Tour will give Brisbane the chance to highlight the best of our beautiful city and build excitement for cycling in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
